New Year’s 911

The countdown to New Year’s Eve has begun. Wouldn’t you prefer to start 2014 feeling great instead of rundown?

As difficult as it might seem, try to maintain your healthy lifestyle habits during these last few weeks of the year. Get up a little early if necessary to exercise, and compensate by going to sleep earlier so that you’re not robbing your body of necessary recovery time. Keep Suntheanine at your bedside for those nights when you have trouble shutting off your mind after your head hits the pillow.

It’s okay to enjoy holiday goodies that you only get once a year. The trick is to sample not indulge. Fill up on nutritious vegetables and fruits, and think of the high-calorie treats as “accents” to your meal. A little bit goes a long way!

Keep alcohol consumption to a minimum. Alcohol introduces toxins and increases free radical activity in the body. That causes three of the worst symptoms: dehydration, headache and queasy stomach. Learn to pace yourself by alternating one alcoholic drink with a glass/bottle of water.

Make quiet time for yourself. It’s easy to get caught up on the hectic energy of the season. Schedule 15 minutes to escape into a book, take a walk or call a good friend. Brew hot tea or make some hot cocoa to enjoy with your significant other. Walk the dog. Do whatever helps to bring you peace.

Wishing you a safe and healthy start to 2014!
